Did you file a Virginia income tax return?

We recently sent you a letter asking for additional information to help us verify a return we received with your name and/or Social Security number.

Before you respond – tips for uploading your documents

We recommend using a desktop or laptop.

If you filed the return, make sure you have all the documentation requested in your letter (such as W-2s, 1099s, and a copy of your driver’s license) ready to upload before getting started below.

Make sure each file meets the following requirements:

  • Accepted file types: PDF, JPEG, PNG, Bitmap, TIFF, or GIF.
  • Maximum size for each file: 10MB (Tip: If you included multiple documents within a single file, try resaving as individual files).
  • File names cannot contain spaces (Example of good file names: smith-w2.pdf; smith_w2.pdf; smithw2.pdf)
  • Do not upload password protected or otherwise encrypted documents - this is already a secure site, and we won't be able to read your files.
  • You may upload up to 50 files. If you have more than 50, consider combining smaller documents into one file.
  • All documents must be clear and easy to read.
